Snag A Job Newsletter March 2008

Every month your Snag A Job Team produce a Newsletter in which we share our experience with you over the past month. Here is March's.

March 2008

In January Catherine began recruiting for 2 Sales Consultants.

She received 51 CVs and resumes.

She interviewed only 9 applicants in February/March.

She came across the usual mix of excellent, good, poor and appalling CVs/resumes.

She says it never ceases to amaze her how little effort people put into writing their resume, especially for what she considers high paid jobs.

A number of CVs contained obvious grammatical and spelling errors. She concluded that no-one had proof read these CVs and decided against interviewing anyone who paid so little attention to detail!

Others were too long or too short or simply not tailored to the advertised job.

Don't make these mistakes in your CV or resume. Why go to the effort of applying for positions if your CV or resume isn't up to scratch? Remember that most interviewers spend only seconds on each CV so you really must get it right.

Of the 9 Catherine interviewed, 4 did well and 2 very well.

The 3 who failed to impress showed a lack of preparation. One knew little about the Company or the role, and the other 2 failed to answer common interview questions thoroughly and had no interview questions to ask.

It's a shame when people let themselves down by not preparing for their interview. Remember that as interviewers we judge you only on your CV/resume/application form and your interview, which might only be 40 minutes. It's a short time to make the right impression. Time spent preparing beforehand can really make a difference to your chances of success.
