How To Snag A Job Newsletter May 2008
Every month your How To Snag A Job Team produce a Newsletter in which we share our experience with you over the past month. Here is May's Newsletter.
May 2008
In May, Sam and two of his colleagues ran a group job interview.
The group job interview was one of a series of selection ‘tests’ designed to reduce a candidate pool from 19 to 4. Four trainee manager positions were up for grabs.
On the same day as the group job interview, the 19 applicants completed numerical tests, answered a series of logic test questions and undertook an SDI assessment (a form of personality test).
Following these tests, 9 applicants were called for a further interview, this time with a panel of 3 interviewers which included Sam. The final 4 have yet to be chosen.
Sam observed some interesting behaviours during the group job interview and we have written an article to assist you if you are asked to take part in a group job interview.
Catherine interviewed 7 candidates hoping to land one of two Project Manager positions at her Company. She was impressed by the standard of the applicants at interview and the extent to which all had prepared for the challenge.
But, as is often the case, answers to behavioural interview questions were poor in comparison to other answers. Many candidates prepare text book answers and get rather stumped when they are asked to explain how they DID act in a given situation rather than how they WOULD have acted in a theoretical one.
Be ready for behavioural interview questions. They are common and good answers count for a lot. Interviewers are more interested in real stories than fiction!
