Job Interviews -- Introduction
First of all congratulations on winning a job interview. Only about 5-10% of applicants get as far as an interview so you should be proud that your job
application form, CV
or resume hit the mark.
Now it's time to win the job!
In this Job Interview Guide you'll find top interview tips on all aspects of your job interview including how to give great interview answers and some sample answers too.
Armed with these tips, you'll be one step ahead of your competition and ready to deal with anything your interviewers throw at you.
Let's get started...
Types of Job Interview -- The Common Interview
The purpose of a typical job interview is two-fold:
- For you it's finding out if the job is right for you, should you be offered it
- For the interviewers it's finding out if you can do the job AND fit into the existing team
Your resume, CV or job application gave the interviewers some information (enough for them to consider you a possibility) but the
interview is their chance to find out more about you and assess in detail your suitability for the post.
These normal types of job interview last about 50 minutes and usually comprise the following:
- Welcome and introductions and perhaps a little scene setting -- 5 minutes or so
- A series of interview questions and your answers -- 30 to 40 minutes
- An opportunity for you to ask any questions -- 5 to 15 minutes
The answers you give will be compared to the job criteria and in most cases you will be given a score for each answer, based on how
closely you match that criteria. The job applicant with the highest score is usually successful, unless there are other factors the
interviewers wish to take into account.
If you want to be the winning candidate at these types of job interview, it follows that:
- You must have a good understanding of the job criteria
- You must give the right answers to interview questions
We'll show you how to do both.
